Dr. Arthur Gomtsyan
Associate Research Fellow, Neuroscience Research
Abbott Laboratories

Arthur Gomtsyan obtained Ph.D degree in Organic Chemistry from N.D.Zelinsky Institute of Organic Chemistry (Moscow, Russia) working on the synthesis of oligosaccharide fragments of bacterial polysaccharides. He then completed his Postdoctoral work at the University of Montreal (Canada) conducting research in the areas of asymmetric synthesis and molecular recognition.

In 1996 he joined Neuroscience Research at Abbott Laboratories where he was involved in the discovery of analgesics with novel mechanisms of action. His earlier contributions included discovery of novel nonnucleoside type adenosine kinase inhibitors as well as competitive and noncompetitive P2X3 antagonists. Currently, he is an Associate Research Fellow and the focus of his team is on identification and optimization of TRPV1 antagonists for the treatment of different types of pain.
