Dr. Cheryl Barton

Dr. Cheryl Lee Barton graduated from Queens University in Belfast in 1993 with a doctorate from the department of Biochemistry and Biology. This three year project involved the characterization of novel proteins in parasites and hosts as potential targets for drug development.

Dr. Barton served a sabbatical at Merck Sharp and Dohme’s Neuroscience Centre to develop assays for protein identification. In 1999, Dr Barton was head hunted away from the industry into the Dutch Investment Bank ABN Armro N.V to join their team of Pharmaceutical researchers as a senior equity analyst in London. Whilst there, Cheryl became the lead analyst on AstraZeneca, Roche and Sanofi-Synthelabo and was responsible for writing thematic research notes, evaluating new drugs in development and assessing their potential impact on Pan European stocks.

In 2002 Dr Barton established the consultancy Pharmavision.co.uk to provide independent, tailor made, pharmaceutical thematic research to Investment Houses, Competitive Intelligence Specialists and Pharmaceutical Companies. The research reports combine independent analysis with patient based models to forecast the potential sales growth of key drugs in clinical development.

Winifred Halsey

Winifred has a Master’s degree in Biology specializing in Microbiology and Molecular Biology. She is the principal of TechKnowledge Research, which provides market and competitive intelligence research and analysis to high technology companies. Prior to founding her own company in 1987, Ms. Halsey held various managerial and research positions at: Amersham Corporation, Baxter Laboratories, Abbott Laboratories, Northwestern University and Loyola University Medical Center.

John Heng

John obtained his PhD in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics from Harvard University in 1996. He joined Motorola’s New Enterprises following graduation, working on biologically-related programs including biosensors, telemedicine, bioinformatics and precision agriculture.

He later moved to the Global Software Group of Motorola, working for its new business venture program, managing a team of internal business consultants who assisted with developing regional growth strategies for Latin America and the Asia-Pacific regions, new product platforms and business process development. John left Motorola in September of 2004 to pursue his own business ideas.

Jelena Markovic

Jelena Markovic (MA) has extensive experience in the field of pharmaceuticals and healthcare. She has held industry research positions at IMS Health, Business Monitor International and World Markets Health Centre (Global Insight) and is currently a lead analyst for Arrowhead Publishers.

She has been responsible for providing country forecasts and competitive intelligence, with a particular focus on European and Asian markets. She is the author of numerous special reports reviewing regional trends, specific therapeutic areas and policy assessment, in addition to election monitoring and economic updates for various European countries.

She has authored a number comprehensive pharmaceutical and healthcare prognosis reports for European and Asian countries, which included forecasts as well as regulatory, economic and socio-political trends.

She has authored a number of Arrowhead’s reports, including Monoclonal Antibodies 2007, The Global Proteins Therapeutic Market, The Global Pain Therapeutics Market, Pharmaceutical Pricing, Reimbursement and Parallel Trade and Injectable Drug Delivery.

Bianca Piachaud

Bianca Piachaud (MA, PhD) is an analyst specializing in strategic management aspects of the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. She received her MA (Hons) degree in Economics and Management Studies from the University of Aberdeen and a Doctorate in Strategic Management from the Aberdeen Business School, The Robert Gordon University. Her doctoral program was completed in collaboration with GlaxoWellcome in the United Kingdom.

She is the author of Outsourcing R&D in the Pharmaceutical Industry and is a reviewer for the International Journal of Biotechnology, published by Inderscience Enterprises Ltd. and co-sponsored by the Science, Technology and Globalization Project at Harvard University.

In recognition of her research publications, her biographical profile is included in the Marquis Who’s Who in Science and Engineering (2003).

Peter Wittner

Peter is an independent pharmaceutical marketing consultant who has been in the pharmaceutical industry for over 30 years. Out of this, more than half has been in the area of generics. Peter has a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry and has worked in commercial and marketing roles for companies such as Roussel and Hoechst (now Aventis) at the European level. Later he worked for the former Evans Medical generic business following its MBO from Glaxo and then Norton Pharmaceuticals (now part of IVAX) where he was responsible for European Sales & Marketing. After leaving Norton, Peter set up his own consultancy in 1993 and operated independently until 1996 when he joined the Indian company Ranbaxy to set up the infrastructure of their new UK subsidiary and spent two years with them.

For the last 7 years, he has reverted to doing consultancy work, specialising in the field of generics. His company (Interpharm Consultancy/www.interpharm-consultancy.co.uk) provides market information, access to new generic products and helps market entrants to develop their generic strategy.
